The roads were great today… but it was another bad bike day.  We rode 137 miles winding in and out and around low TN mountains.  I thought I would ….but I never do get tired of riding the out of the way places the TAT passes through.

Our day started OK with breakfast at the Waffle House but Bill’s bike’s started over heating and his low power problems reemerged on his Honda CR650. His bike hobbled along all day and was coughing up oil as we pulled into the MC parking area at the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg TN. Motorcycle parking was right at Jack Daniel’s front door which was very VIP for MC parking…. but Jack Daniel’s experience seemed more like a Disney experience than the old TN authentic distillery experience I had in on my after graduation 1979 road trip.  Bill took off for the Walmart immediately so not to stain the VIP MC parking area.

Walmarts are oasis’s for us or any traveller traveling light. Walmart’s have everything in one place and it’s cheap.   You can buy an aluminum turkey pan the food section, oil in the auto section…drain your oil in the parking lot, put it back into the bottles and hand the dirty oil bottles to an Auto section employee and they will dispose it for you.   Bill went in, grabbed carb cleaner, paper towels, a six pack of a good IPA (he needed it), a subway sandwich and went to work work in the shade of a tree next to Walmart worker’s on break smoking cigarettes in the their blue vests. Bill met us at our hotel with his bike running again later that evening.  The pool invited me for a swim so I did.   It has been hot and sticky the last couple of days, the swim was sweet.

Sunset outside our Best Western.
